DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE CANADA PRIVACY ACT REFORM INITIATIVE PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT SESSIONS
Thank you for your interest in the Privacy Act Reform Initiative focus group.
Who/What: The Minister of Justice has directed the Department of Justice Canada to conduct focus groups with Canadian citizens regarding the future of reforms to the Privacy Act. The Privacy Act is the law that regulates how the Federal Government treats personal information. Naut’sa mawt Tribal Council has been contracted by the Department to assist in this process.
How/Why: A 90-minute focus group will be held with 10-15 other individuals in a relaxed and respectful setting. The focus group will discuss potential uses by government of personal information in different circumstances and ask participants for their thoughts and reactions. You do not need to be an expert on the subject. All comments will be recorded by a minute-taker. The moderator will produce a “What We Heard Report” for the Department of Justice Canada to consider in determining possible future changes to the Privacy Act. No comment will be attributed to any individual at the focus group. Your name will only be used for registration purposes.
